Inside Ballet Theater Basel: A moment with the Basel Ballett Gilde
With the start of the season 2025/2026, for the first time a management team is responsible for the ballet at Theater Basel. Marco Goecke, Nadja Kadel and Ludovico Pace are three experienced dance professionals who will jointly shape the artistic and strategic direction of ballet, contributing their very different core competencies.
The artistic continuity of recent decades will be preserved, but at the same time innovative impulses will be set and virulent themes will be negotiated on stage. Ballet Basel is a lively centre for contemporary dance and forms a platform for open artistic exchange. Marco Goecke, as the creative head, is exclusively dedicated to his role as resident choreographer and thus concentrates on the development of the company. His emotionally charged works, with their unique choreographic signature, shape the profile of the company and form the basis for its artistic work. Each season, audiences will be treated to a world premiere by Goecke, which will enrich the already broad repertoire of Ballet Basel. In addition, the company remains open to outside influences by presenting works by other renowned as well as young choreographers.
The company's aim is to establish an ensemble of soloists. Although the members have developed their own individual personalities and come from different backgrounds, they work together as a team. All dancers have excellent classical training and extensive experience in contemporary dance techniques. As many of the works are highly expressive, the dancers share an interest and potential for the theatrical interpretation of their roles.
The various choreographies this season are by: Marco Goecke, Lilit Hakobyan, Anne Jung, Jiří Kylián and Hans van Manen
